Adjunct Charge Results
Each year the Adjunct Council is tasked with a number of goals to improve the adjunct experience at NLU. Here you can see the goals that were sourced from the adjunct community and the outcomes bulleted under each goal.
Goal #1: Improve information transparency and availability for the adjunct community.
- Created a webpage on the CTLE website and process to archive adjunct council meeting minutes and meeting recordings.
- Created process for sharing Senate meeting recordings and committee minutes with adjuncts and adjunct council.
- Clarified and made readily available information about adjunct payment - Faculty Load and Compensation (FLAC).
- Implemented an e-suggestion box
- Created a D2L shell for message board capabilities.
- Created "Adjunct Corner" in the Newsletter, which highlights events and opportunities for adjunct faculty.
Goal #2: Improve connection between program chairs and adjunct faculty.
- Created chair onboarding process and professional development.
Goal #3: Address course staffing concerns and career trajectory at the University
- Improved communication about course assignments.
- Improved the process of teaching across departments/colleges.
- Clarified pathway to full employment.
Goal #4: Provide adjuncts with ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
- Explored the adjunct performance evaluation system.
- Clarified the connection of PD Programming to Teaching Excellence Framework.
- Explored offering PD and Campus events at a variety times throughout the week.
Goal #5: Improve adjunct benefits and compensation package.
- Explored adjuncts payment model in relationship to duties outside teaching.
- Explored the possibility of a tiered payment system for adjuncts.
- Improved communication regarding adjunct workspaces at each campus location via the CTLE website.
- Include adjuncts in compensation and benefit planning within the Faculty Planning, Standards, and Compensation Committee.
- Provided information and explored the possibility institutional support for research projects.
