Emergency Notification System

Instructions to Review and Update Emergency Contact Information

The NLU Security Council is pleased to announce the launch of a new “NLU Emergency Notification Service”, which will be used to contact you in the case of a University emergency.

The best available number has been pre-entered. To add any additional numbers below or to change your primary number, please follow the instructions below. Once you register your preferences for the service, you will be able to receive emergency messages from NLU in any or all of following formats:

  • Voice (any or all of: home phone, cell phone, work phone)
  • Text message (via SMS text messaging)
  • Email (using a personal email address of you choice)

Should an emergency ever arise, you will receive updates via all of the message formats for which you have registered. In order to register your preferences, please follow the instructions below.

Please take the time now to update your contact information so that we may communicate with you in case of an emergency:

  1. Log onto the portal at my.nl.edu
  2. Click on the My Services tab
  3. Click on the NLU Self Service tab
  4. Click on the Personal Information tab
  5. To View Information click on the View Address(es) and Phone(es)
  6. To Update Information click on the Update Address(es) and Phone(es) located under the View Address(es) and Phone(es) link
  7. Click on Current
  8. To Update the Primary contact number enter that data. Note: Extensions are not supported!
  9. To Insert or Update additional emergency contact numbers, such as a business, or mobile or text number, select the type and enter the number. Note: Extensions are not supported!
  10. Then press the submit button

All emergency contact phone data will be used only for the NLU Emergency Notification system.

In order to ensure your privacy, any phone information that you provide for use by the Emergency Notification Service will not be used for any other purpose, by NLU or anyone else. In addition, we would like to assure you that the service will only be used in situations which require urgent communication to the NLU Community. We plan to test the Notification Service once per academic year, so any charges that you incur from receiving text messages or cell phone calls should be minimal.

Though we do not recommend that you do so, you may opt out of the Emergency Notification System simply by removing the Emergency Notification Address and Phone entry in NLU Self-Service through the portal.
