The Center for Inquiry in Education

The Center for Inquiry in Education (CFIE) (formerly known as "the Center for Practitioner Research") and the peer-reviewed, open-access electronic journal inquiry in education (i.e.) were established in 2010 by National College of Education (NCE) faculty members and former Associate Dean, Dr. Arlene Borthwick. The center provides a forum for practitioners and scholars representing diverse fields of education and related disciplines to share their experiences and expertise as part of a larger learning community.

The journal aims to promote and disseminate a broad range of research and scholarship focusing on school-based contexts with teacher inquiry at the core. Focus areas include but are not limited to classroom practice, educational leadership, foundations, curriculum, practitioner training, and action research in education. i.e. attracts submissions from national and international authors, allowing dissemination of a broad range of scholarship to the education community, and in 2019, i.e. gained ERIC recognition.

We conceive of inquiry in education as encompassing historical, sociocultural, philosophical, ideological, linguistic, comparative, and international aspects of education. We value research and scholarship produced by professionals pursuing improved teaching and learning practice in PK-12, postsecondary, and other educational settings. Our goal is to bring rigor and innovation to our scholarly pursuits and encourage others to join in on the ultimate journey of intellectual curiosity and practical outcomes of our endeavors.

NCE faculty and students engage in various research and collaborative initiatives to inform our instruction, provide students with high-quality learning opportunities, and bring research and practice together to transform education.
