NLU Tutoring Partnerships in Literacy Instruction

NLU has partnered with four tutoring services focused on early literacy skills. These paid opportunities are open to all NLU candidates, providing valuable experience teaching young children. 

Reading Power, Inc 

  • Open spots now in North Chicago area schools
  • Pre-kindergarten through second grade in-person
  • One day a week for 3 hours during the school day ($20 an hour) for 20 weeks
  • 2-3 spots open for winter/spring semesters
  • If interested, step one: fill out the interest form application Reading Power Application Interest Form. Step two: go to https://readingpowerinc.org/ and fill out the tutor application online.

Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corps

  • Up to $1,500 for childcare and transportation expenses
  • Select Chicago Public Schools
  • Kindergarten through fifth grade
  • Tutor 20-32 hours per week during the school day; some flexibility on the hours

On Your Mark Education

  • Paid tutoring during the school day and flexible hours
  • Online format only
  • Kindergarten through second-grade literacy

Lil' Scholars

  • Summer tutoring (Volunteer and one or two paid positions from a charitable scholarship from NLU)
  • 4 days a week, 7:30-12:00
  • First through fourth grades - Literacy and Math
  • Southside YMCA, 6330 South Stoney Island Ave, Chicago, IL
