NLU President Nivine Megahed Named as a 2023 Power of Women Award Winner

Award honors pathbreakers striving to build a more accessible future for higher education

In recognition of her accomplishments as an innovator for widening access to higher education, the Arizona State University and Global Silicon Valley Summit has named NLU’s President, Dr. Nivine Megahed, as a 2023 Power of Women Award Winner! As the Summit describes the awardees:

Leading the Brave New World. Compelling. Generous. Inspiring. Bold. Leaders. Funny. Innovators. Builders. Founders. CEOs. Presidents. Teachers. Scaled Impact. Faculty. These are just some of the notable traits and experiences of the 2023 Power of Women Award winners at

ASU+GSV.

Each year, our Power of Women (#POW) Award honors incredible female leaders who are creating a world that ensures that ALL people have equal access to the future. This year's award winners are leaders who inspire the world with their success in increasing access to education and workforce skills for millions of learners globally.

Here is the Summit’s bio for President Megahed:

Nivine Megahed, Ph.D.

Practicing Clinical Psychologist. University Faculty Member. Leading Education Executive. Expert Turnaround Leader. President. Innovator. Impact Focused. Transformation Leader. An executive experienced in transformation management, Nivine took the helm of Chicago-based National-Louis University at a time when it faced serious enrollment declines and financial and cultural challenges.

Nivine dramatically widened the mission and vision of the urban University to serving low-income working adults. NLU is now known for its excellence in supporting low-income adults (70% Pell Grant

students)—first-time freshmen, transfers, and degree completers— with flexible, low-cost offerings and rigorous, supportive academic experiences focused on providing career coaching, work-based

learning, and career placements. As a result, NLU’s annual enrollments continue to rise despite national trends of precipitous enrollment declines. In 2022, NLU was ranked a top 20 school by Washington Monthly for its Innovative Approach to Higher Education.

Congratulations to Dr. Megahed, who will be joining her fellow award winners at the 2023 ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego in April!
