Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence Current Programming
Each term, the CTLE works with faculty to facilitate peer-to-peer PD focused on topics that you can use in your classroom right away. Please expand the accordions below for this term's schedule. These sessions are aligned with the Teaching Excellence Framework, which was developed by a diverse group of stakeholders - led by the Faculty Development Committee (FDC). If you'd like to host a faculty forum, please complete the survey on the right.
Tech:30
The Tech:30 series is an opportunity to get plugged-in to helpful tech in your classroom. Tapping into a number of programs that faculty use regularly, these sessions will cover under-utilized features of programs to help you become more tech-savvy faculty! LITS will explain the technical aspects, and a faculty member will explain how they've used the tech in their classroom.
Sessions will be held on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 11:00 - 11:30am, prior to the Library's Academic Honesty Office Hours. During the first 10 minutes we will walk through an AI tool (see tool schedule below). The remainder of the session will be an open discussion about responsible faculty and student use of the tool.
Tech:30 Schedule

- October 25th - Goblin.tools
- November 22nd - Quillbot
- January 24th - Co-pilot

Academic Honesty Office Hours are hosted by the University Library on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 11:30am-1:00pm (CST); following the Tech:30 session. (no sessions will be hosted in November or December)
Community of Practice: Equity in Practice Series
As an extension of what we learned last year from the Courageous Conversations series and the Dr. Tia Brown McNair visit, we'll be hosting Equity in Practice sessions. These will help the NLU community enhance equity, inclusion, and belonging in the classroom and at NLU. This will likely be paired with the development of an Inquiry Framework. Content and linked resources adapted from the CUE (2020) Equity-minded inquiry series (Document Review, Observations, and Syllabus Review).
For more details about each session, please visit the CTLE's Equity in Practice page.

First Friday Firsts Series
This workshop series showcases NLU faculty’s innovative and creative instructional approaches. Are you considering trying something for the first time in your course? You've come to the right place! This is the “I tried this and it needs your help” series. On the first Friday of every month, bring a pedagogical technique that you've never tried or have tried in a limited capacity. Share that technique with the group and get feedback! Someone in the group may have tried this technique in the past and can share their experiences with it.
- Faculty bring a technique to the workshop and spends 5-7 minutes describing the technique - a single PPT slide will help (but not required). If the faculty has tried the technique, they describe the student response.
- The group assembled will spend about 15 minutes providing feedback that will help the faculty refine and improve the technique.
- Repeat as often as time allows.
When? The First Friday of the Month, Noon - 1:00pm CST
JumpStart Orientation
We realize that a single orientation session is not enough to support new faculty members. So, we've created a series of orientation sessions, collectively called the JumpStart Orientation, scheduled throughout the term. These sessions will help you get acquainted with your fellow faculty members and NLU’s systems, while also serving as touch-points for you to get your questions answered. See each drop-down below for an outline of each session and a link to register. Please keep in mind that these sessions may change based on the evolving needs of faculty. We’re happy you’re here and we look forward to seeing you during the JumpStart Orientation!
Excellence in Online & Remote Teaching
Excellence in Online and Remote Teaching (EORT), a development opportunity for all faculty at National Louis University, features asynchronous, interactive modules and resources accessed on the CTLE website that address the nuts and bolts of online and remote teaching. This information is designed as hands-on, just-in-time learning experiences that result in tangible, usable strategies that can be immediately implemented into your teaching practice.
Even though the course has a sequential aspect to it, it is also designed for you to consume and interact with information that is most meaningful to you, so feel free to skip around and don’t worry if you do not participate in each module.
Use the EORT link below to explore the web resources to help you teach asynchronously.
Courageous Conversations Series
The Courageous Conversations series of professional development will focus on building community among faculty and offer a safe place to surface concerns around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. These conversations can also serve as a model for faculty to use with their students to build community (see the Teaching Excellence Framework for context).
A Courageous Conversations page has been created to organize this information and centralize the next steps identified during these sessions. Also, a Padlet has been created to help extend the conversations beyond the sessions. Please join the ongoing discussion in Padlet.

PD Reflection
Often, you'll want to share progress on your pedagogical experimentation during your Faculty Performance Evaluation, or in other venues - but it can be difficult to remember everything you did throughout the year. Download the form below to reflect on your implementation of practices learned through PD engagement.
PD Budget
If you're seeking growth opportunities outside of what the CTLE or your college is offering, each full-time faculty/staff member has a $1,000/year professional development budget.
