NLU's JumpStart Orientation
We realize that a single orientation session is not enough to support new faculty members. So, we've created a series of orientation sessions, collectively called the JumpStart Orientation, scheduled throughout the term. These sessions will help you get acquainted with your fellow faculty members and NLU’s systems, while also serving as touch-points for you to get your questions answered. Below is an outline of each session to help you get an idea of what each session will cover. Please keep in mind that these sessions may change based on the evolving needs of faculty. We’re happy you’re here and we look forward to seeing you during the JumpStart Orientation!

Midterm Drop-in Q&A
Midterm is a natural time to check-in with students. Has what you've been doing been working? What evidence supports your answer to that question? Questions like these, in addition to instructional strategies, technology tools, and NLU systems and processes can all be covered during this session.
Sample Question topics:
Meta-cognitive strategies to bring to mid-term check-ins.
- Where are they at with the course?
- Where are you at with them?
- Where do you/they need support?
Active classroom strategies
- Data-driven instruction will help you adjust your curriculum based on student needs. Sources of data: D2L, classroom polls (socrative), EAB, PowerBI
- Making learning active:
- Kahoot
- Socrative
- Station Rotation
We can also discuss any gaps in support. Do you feel you have everything you need regarding LITS/Tech, department meetings, on-campus activities?
