The Student Emergency Fund

National Louis University (NLU) has launched a new scholarship fund to serve as a vital resource for continuing students facing financial hardships that prevent them from rejoining their classmates and earning their degrees.

Last year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, NLU created the Student Emergency Fund as a short-term solution for students facing challenges ranging from job loss to medical bills to food and housing insecurities.

”I am incredibly grateful for the financial support. Because of your help, I can teach in early childhood programs with confidence and be there to support children and their families.” – Melissa W.

Now, as the fallout from the 2020 crisis lingers on, NLU has established a long-term fund to “catch” our students who are still being impacted by the ongoing crisis. This new fund will help them stay in school and get “over the finish line” to graduation.

Unfortunately, without the Student Emergency Fund, the reality is that many of these students may not be able to continue their education at NLU.

Please give to the NLU Student Emergency Fund today to ensure that our students can leave the challenges of 2020 behind and move confidently into 2021.

According to recent surveys of our students:

  • 44% of NLU students experienced a negative economic impact on their families last year;
  • 40% were food insecure within the prior 30 days of the survey;
  • 36% had difficulty getting basic necessities to keep their family healthy;
  • 34% were housing insecure at the time of the survey;
  • 33% experienced a lost job or reduced hours;
  • 29% of NLU students have experienced a COVID infection, hospitalization, or death in their family;
  • 24% could not pay bills;
  • 24% took on additional childcare responsibilities;
  • 8% were homeless due to the pandemic.

By making a donation to the Student Emergency Fund today, you will be to making a difference in the lives of deserving students. This fund will build the safety net and provide the ongoing resources required to meet our students’ needs.
