Shared Stewardship Model

National Louis University follows a shared stewardship approach to developing and managing course templates.

Program faculty identify shared learning outcomes, a signature learning experience across a program, and a comprehensive assessment strategy before course development.

When the development process begins, the Learning Experience Design (LXD) team collaborates with the Program Leader and the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to plan and develop a Course Map (to show alignment among the learning objectives, assessments, learning activities, and learning resources) and build a course template in the learning management system (LMS). A library faculty member is assigned to each project, who can help identify accessible and sustainable resources, support the use and creation of open educational resources, and serve as a thought partnemastr to help learners develop skills in using information resources,

The LXD team also collaborates with other units at the university. The Assessment and Accreditation team helps us leverage institutional infrastructure to evidence quality in courses. They also help us incorporate best practices for collecting data within courses for program review and assessment. The I.T. department in LITS works with us to set up integrations in our LMS and helps us ensure the security of student data and information.

Online Education encourages us to incorporate best practices for supporting online students by designing learning activities, using high-impact and high-engagement instructional strategies appropriate for online learning, and selecting learning resources and technologies.

The LXD team also partners with the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) to develop and facilitate professional development programming for faculty to adopt evidence-based, transformative, and innovative teaching and learning practices. Our team also sponsors an LXD Student Advisory group that recommends ways we can further enhance their learning experiences at NLU.
