About the Accelerated B.S. in Nursing (ABSN-H)

National Louis University has been educating students for 135 years, and is ready to assist students who already have a Bachelor’s degree in another field and are wishing to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Applicants will enjoy an accelerated program of study over 5 quarters in a hybrid learning environment.

Our program builds upon your education and allows you to gain knowledge in the science of nursing to provide the best evidence-based care to patients across the lifespan to improve outcomes. Our accelerated program allows you to complete your studies over 5 quarter in a hybrid learning environment.
Clinical Experience
You will have clinical experiences beginning in the first quarter. Your lab/simulations and clinical experiences will occur in the Chicago Metro area. You will have clinical experiences across the lifespan including Adult Health, Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynecologic Health, Behavioral Health and Population Health. These clinical experiences will prepare you to care for a diverse patient population, across many healthcare delivery sites, and across the lifespan. Each student will round out their clinical experiences with an immersive clinical at the end of the program. You will complete in excess of 690 clinical hours preparing you for your future role as a professional nurse.
Flexible Hybrid Learning
The classes will be asynchronously online to allow for maximum flexibility.
There will be scheduled synchronous sessions to practice critical thinking application to real life clinical experiences facilitated by expert faculty.
Lab and clinical experiences will be in person on campus and at various facilities across the Chicago metro area requiring the student to live within driving distance of the downtown campus on Michigan Ave in Chicago, Il.
Lab and simulation experiences will be conducted in a newly built Center for Simulation and Interprofessional Education on the Chicago Campus

You will join a cohort of other students with whom you can share your professional goals and be supported by professional and dedicated faculty throughout your time in the program.
Students who have completed the pre-requisite courses below with a C or better within the last 5 years from a 2 or 4 year accredited school, and who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for all college level coursework are encouraged to apply.

Completion of this program will prepare you for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensing Exam (NCLEX) and to care for diverse patients across the lifespan providing evidence-based, patient-centered care to optimize outcomes.
What You'll Learn
The ABSN degree at NLU is for those who have a bachelor's degree and would like elevate their education and confidence with improving patient outcomes through evidence-based nursing care. The program covers basic knowledge of this degree field plus a more sophisticated level of coursework in physical and social sciences, research, public health, nursing management, and the humanities. This degree will enrich your professional development in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and will provide graduates with a well-rounded view of nursing and healthcare that can positively impact patient outcomes and enhance evidence-based nursing practices.

As critical thinking and clinical judgment are key to the nursing profession, you will have ample opportunities to learn and enhance these skills. You will also explore the various career options available to BSN prepared nurses.
Health Assessment
You will learn how to assess individuals across the lifespan to identify variations from normal. These findings will then be discussed with the healthcare team and in collaboration create a plan of care for the client.
