About the B.S. in Nursing (RN to BSN)

Clinical Experience

Our program features 88 virtual clinical hours in Health Assessment for the RN: 20 virtual and 68 in person clinical hours for Population Health.

Flexible, Online Learning

Our online asynchronous program will give you the flexibility to do the program at your own pace. 

A Supportive Community

You will join a cohort of other nurses with whom you can share your professional goals and be supported by professional and dedicated faculty throughout your time in the program.

What You'll Learn

The RN-BSN degree at NLU is for those who have an associate degree or diploma in Nursing and would like elevate their education and confidence with improving patient outcomes through evidence-based nursing care. The program covers basic knowledge of this degree field plus a more sophisticated level of coursework in physical and social sciences, research, public health, nursing management, and the humanities. This degree will enrich your professional development in nursing and will provide graduates with a well-rounded view of nursing and healthcare that can positively impact patient outcomes and enhance evidence-based nursing practices.

Critical Thinking

As critical thinking and clinical judgement are key to the nursing profession, you will have ample opportunities to expand and enhance these skills. You will also explore the various career enhancements available to BSN prepared RNs. 

Health Assessment

You will advance your health assessment skills by building upon existing knowledge to assess the whole patient and their unique situation to develop a patient centered, evidence-based plan of care. This will lead to the ability to not only identify current health problems but to assess for potential health and wellness issues.

Ethics in Healthcare

Our courses emphasize how to navigate ethical, legal, psychological, cultural, and social issues in nursing and healthcare.

Leadership in Nursing Practice 

Our program provides knowledge on how to delegate successfully, improve quality and safety, and become an agent of change to assume leadership roles.  

Why Earn Your BSN?

Current data indicates that healthcare has fallen short of its goal to increase the number of baccalaureate-prepared nurses. As of 2020 only 59% of working registered nurses have a bachelor’s degree. Research has demonstrated that patient outcomes are improved when patient care is provided by baccalaureate prepared nurses.
