Continue researching what degree program would be best for you. Things to research include:
  • As you are looking at job listings for potential career opportunities, make sure you are making note of the specifications they have listed for their requirements. Although technically both business degrees, a company may see a big difference in a Masters of Business Administration and Masters in Organizational Leadership
  • The cost and schedule. Masters degrees can vary in both how expensive they might be and what their schedules look like. With the understanding that many people who pursue Masters degrees are already established in their professional field, it is possible that they can be especially expensive. Along with that, with many people who pursue Masters degrees currently working as well as going to school, many programs may only run on nights and weekends, entirely digitally, or in typical day-time fashion.
From there, reach out to enrollment/admissions/department chair

Once you’ve identified a Masters program that is a good fit for you, the next step would be to reach out to the Admissions/Enrollment department of the university to discuss what the next steps might be. While this process can vary depending on school and program, a few things to be prepared for include:

  • Prerequisites: Many Masters level programs except applicants to have previous education, which can include a certain level of degree, certain classes completed, and a specific GPA. When discussing this you may also be asked to provide transcripts from your previous degree program.
  • Entrance Assessment or Essay: Many Masters level programs may also ask you to provide more information about your current level of skill and education with that field of study. This information is often obtained through a skill assessment or test, or a written essay. Most enrollment pages will have information to help you prep for these prior to submission.

The admissions and enrollment departments of the University should be able to assist you from there with any other information they may need, or requirements you must meet before moving to the next phase. Consider using a year after graduation to join AmeriCorps or Peace Corps for one year. It could be a very fulfilling experience, both personally and professionally, and provide you with experience, resources, and scholarship to pursue a graduate degree or employment for the federal or state agencies or a non-profit sector.
