SUMMER & AY 2024 HOUSING UPDATES
SUMMER VS ACADEMIC YEAR (FALL) HOUSING PROCESSES
Due to the way NLU's lease is set up with the University Center, it's important to note that Summer 2024 and Academic Year 2024 housing are different processes and potentially different assignments. As a result, your summer room assignment may not be the same as your fall room assignment. However, right now, the next step in the process is to select your Summer 2024 room.
SUMMER 2024 ROOM SELECTION
As a part of this new housing process, students can choose their roommates and/or choose their rooms before NLU Housing & Residence Life makes room assignments. From Wednesday, May 15 - Saturday, May 18 you will be able to login to eRezLife and select your room. After the end of the day on the 18th, room selection closes, and NLU will make assignments based on the preferences listed in your application.
HOUSING ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS
To request a housing accommodation, such as a specific room type for a medical need or to have an Emotional Support Animal or Service Animal in the residence hall, you’ll need to start by submitting an accommodation request. Once a request is approved by NLU’s Center for Student Accessibility Resources (CSAR), we send the approval over to the University Center, which will require some additional paperwork to be signed. Accommodation requests must be received by the housing application deadline. The Summer 2024 housing deadline has passed, therefore accommodation requests for Summer 2024 will be met based on space availability.

HOUSING PROCESS FOR SUMMER & AY 2024-2025 LAUNCED APRIL 29th
We are thrilled to announce that the 2024-2025 Housing Process officially launched today via our new housing management system, eRezLife! Thank you for your patience as we work to improve our processes by transitioning to this new system.
New Housing System – eRezLife
The new eRezLife system is designed to make the housing application and room selection process more convenient. It allows you to find roommates and create roommate groups with those you are interested in living with. You can log in and select your specific room during the designated Room Selection dates. This is an optional process, and anyone who doesn’t choose a roommate or selects a room will be automatically assigned based on application date, preferences, and availability. More details about the room selection process will be sent closer to those dates. However, the first step is to submit a housing application by the deadline.
Application Deadlines
- Summer or Full Year (Apartments-Only), the priority application deadline is May 10th. This is a quick turnaround due to the time needed to prepare transition plans for summer housing residents.
- Academic Year 2024-2025 housing, the application deadline is July 26th.

End of the Academic Year Approaching
This is a reminder that the Academic Year 2023-2024 housing contract ends in June. All students living in NLU’s UC housing must move out in June. Students who have applied for a summer housing assignment may be moving to a new space for the summer term, but the UC will share interim or new room move information once summer assignments are finalized.
Move-out dates are based on student academic calendars. Different academic programs have different calendars. For example, the Undergraduate College is on the 10-week calendar, and Kendall College is on the 11-week calendar. Move-out dates are set based on the student’s finals week, so students can remain in housing until they finish finals week.

National Louis University’s on-campus housing is a collaborative operation that involves multiple offices.
- NLU’s Office of Housing and Residence Life manages all NLU student applications, contracts, and housing assignments for the rooms NLU leases from the University Center.
- The NLU Office of Student Finance manages all payments and payment plans for student accounts for students living in NLU’s housing and
- The University Center Housing Office on the 2nd Floor of the UC manages all day-to-day operations, UC RAs and staff, resident issues, building concerns, and dining operations.

Attention NLU Students: The new Summer 2024 and Academic Year 2024-2025 housing process is now live! Thank you for your patience as we transitioned to and rolled out this process on our new housing management system - eRezLife. Due to limited space, and a short turn-around time to send assignments to the UC for Summer 2024, you'll see the deadline to apply for Summer housing is quick. All the information you need to know about summer housing is available on this website. Once you submit an application, you can create roommate groups or invite others to be roommates. Additionally, during the posted Room Selection Process dates, you'll be able to login to eRezLife and select your specific room. Once you have a room assignment you will be prompted to select a meal plan. Meal Plans are optional for apartments.

March 4th EMAIL TO RESIDENTS

Attention NLU Students: We are less than a month away from launching the 2024-2025 NLU Housing Process, so we wanted to provide you some information as you decided if you would like to live on campus for Summer 2024 or next academic year. There is a lot of information in this email pertaining to the move-out process and summer housing process. Move-Out Dates You’ll notice on our Important Dates page of our website, there are multiple move out dates. Your specific move-out date is based on the academic calendar for your classes. Most Undergraduate College Students and some Graduate programs are on the 10-week quarter calendar. Most Kendall College students are on the 11-week, and some Graduate and Doctoral programs are on the 12-week calendar. Move out is always the Sunday after your finals week, so take look at your final schedule and that will let you know which move-out date pertains to you. If you are unsure which academic calendar you are on, you should contact your Academic Coach. Important Dates 2023-2024: https://nl.edu/student-services/housing-and-residence-life/important-dates/ Spring Quarter 2024 Residents are required to be enrolled in at least one credit hour to remain living in on-campus housing. Students who will not be enrolled or registered for classes in Spring Quarter 2024 need to plan to move out by the Winter Quarter Move-Out date posted on the Important Dates page of our website. Students who remain in housing after the move-out date but aren’t not enrolled in classes by the Add/Drop Deadline, are required to move out and will be charged a higher cancellation fee. Those who move out by the move-out deadline are issued a lower cancellation fee. All of this is explained in the housing contract you signed before moving in, so this should not be a surprise. If there is a chance you will not be enrolled for Spring 2024, you are encouraged to make plans to move out by your specific Winter 2024 move-out deadline. End of the Academic Year is 6/16/24 All housing contracts for 2023-2024 end on June 16th, 2024. Prior to moving into the University Center, you signed one of three contracts. The NLU Office of Housing and Residence Life offers three types of contracts: 1) Summer Only (June to September) 2) Full-Year (June to June) 3) Academic Year (September to June) Regardless of which contract you signed, all housing contracts for 2023-2024 end on June 16th. This means students must plan to move out by that date unless they plan to request summer housing. To request summer housing, full year housing, or academic year housing that process launches April. Summer Housing 2024 Summer 2024 kicks of a new housing process which includes new contracts and new rates. Summer is the first term that is part of the 2024-2025 housing process. That process launches on April 2024. Students interested in living in on-campus housing for the summer must go to the NLU Housing and Residence Life website and complete a housing application and housing contract after mid-April, 2024, and before May 15th, 2024. There will be two contract options for Summer 2024: Summer-Only (June 2024 to September 2024) or Full Year (June 2024 to June 2025).
The only room types offered during the summer are the 4 Bedroom Apartments. No Quad Semi Suites or Semi-Private Suites are offered over the summer. If you are interested in summer housing but want a different room type for the Academic Year, you will need to sign two contracts, one for Summer Only and one for the Academic Year. Full-year contracts are only for those interested in living in an Apartment from June 2024 to June 2025. Housing availability is on a first-come-first-serve basis determined by the date you complete the housing process, and summer housing is not guaranteed. However, should you be interested in a summer apartment after the deadline, there might be spaces available. Please contact the NLU Office of Housing & Residence Life at housing@nl.edu to find out if there are vacancies for Summer 2024.
NLU Summer Housing at the UC or Direct Contract with UC Summer Housing If you are interested in housing at the UC from June through September, you must complete the NLU housing process for NLU’s Summer Housing at the UC. You do have an option to contract/lease directly with the University Center Chicago for summer housing. However, their housing is only available from May 18th to August 11th and does not extend the full length of NLU’s Summer term. The UC Summer Housing is not able to make any accommodations or provide housing from August to September, so the only option to have summer housing that goes for the entire length of NLU’s Summer, is to contract with NLU no directly with the UC.
The Interim Period You should have received an email from UC Summer Housing with Summer Housing Information. A PDF of that email is attached. It’s important to note that other universities with housing at the UC are on different academic calendars. While NLU’s 2023-2024 housing contract ends June 16th, NLU’s Summer Housing starts June 26th, so there is a gap between when your NLU contract ends and Summer begins. If you plan to sign up for summer housing (with NLU or directly with the UC), to prevent any issues, you must request to stay for the interim period. This is the UC’s process, and the UC has provided instructions on how to request to stay at the UC from the time your NLU contract ends to the time NLU summer housing begins.
