Credit by Portfolio
NLU students have the opportunity to earn credit for prior learning by submitting documents such as papers or interviews. This option is available for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Perspectives on Prior Learning (ACL301) - Undergraduate-only
This 2QH course helps students recognize, document, and validate their learning from life and work experiences for potential college credit, especially for General Education coursework. To enroll in ACL301, undergraduates need to meet with their Academic Advisor or Success Coach to see if it fits their credit needs.
There's a list of essays available for ACL301 General Education credit, which you can find in the ACL301 Essay Topic Packet. You can also check out the ACL301 Handbook for writing requirements, checklists, essay topic outlines, and other helpful tips.
Credit Portfolio Assessment in the Discipline - Undergraduate and Graduate
Both undergraduate and graduate students can participate in the Credit Portfolio Assessment in the Discipline (CPL400 or CPL500). In these portfolio courses, you can demonstrate your college-level learning and competencies acquired from work experience. The assessment is done by a faculty assessor, and credits are awarded accordingly. Make sure to discuss your credit needs with your advisor and apply via the NLU Credit by Portfolio Application if you're interested in CPL400 or CPL500.
Program Contacts and Additional Info
Before you start looking into Credit for Prior Learning, make sure to chat with your Academic Advisor or Success Coach first.
