Biography:

I am Dr. Paula Jordan, Associate Professor in the College of Management and Business, National-Louis University. I have been a full-time faculty at NLU since 1998. I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame. My doctoral dissertation entitled, "The Effects of Competition on Efficiency of Electricity Generation: A Post-PURPA Analysis," measured the relative level of efficiency in the generation of electricity in 1978 and 1993. My research provided validation of the policy changes in the industry which increased competition that resulted in a more efficient use of resources. I also hold a M.A. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a B.S. in Business Administration from Ferris State University.

Prior to joining National-Louis University, I was employed in the gas and electric utility industries for 8 years, where I held a variety of analytical positions with Florida Power Corporation and Southern Natural Gas. I was a Derivatives Trader and a Risk Strategy Analyst where I analyzed data, structured deals, and traded Natural Gas, Oil, Coal, and Electricity contracts. I have designed and operated a variety of statistical models to forecast and simulate “what if” scenarios. In addition to my professional work experience and my faculty position at NLU, I have taught as an adjunct faculty member for several institutions, both domestically and internationally, since 1990. With National-Louis University, I have developed and taught numerous courses in the BSM, MSML, MBA and MSEC curriculums.
I have been teaching online courses since 2002 and have had the opportunity to teach a wide range of international students via the online classroom. When I am not teaching or pursuing academic pursuits, I love to travel and experience new cultures. I spend much time outdoors bicycling and working in my garden, as well as enjoying the time with my Labrador retriever.
