Biography:

I have been with NLU as an adjunct faculty member since the fall of 2014. I have lived in Florida for 10 years and now Nebraska.  I did have a small break (18 months) for a military deployment to Afghanistan. You are welcome to read about it if you like. I titled it, A Warriors Way.  No worries, I wrote this to be a tame portrayal of my time there.

I received my Bachelors degree from the University Of New Hampshire. I received a bachelors of science with a major in nursing. I received my Masters of Science from Northeastern University in Boston. I did my Anesthesia training at TUFTS Medical center in Boston.

I was employed as a staff Nurse Anesthesiologist in Florida and in the Navy. I have lectured for the American Association of Operating Room Nurses and Adult Higher Education Alliance. I have only done this at the local level and one day I may graduate to the BIG national meetings!

I have worked in healthcare and social services since 1995 when I was a member of the local fire department's Explorer group in Peterborough, NH. I learned many aspects of firefighting and emergency medicine that have shaped my work ethic and perspective on the world around us. I joined the fire department as a full member in 1997 and miss that aspect of my professional career deeply. I joined (Direct Commissioned Officer) the Navy in 2002 and have been promoted to Lieutenant Commander (LCDR).  I am in the inactive ready reserve (IRR) now and that is perfectly fine.

In my spare time I journey through life with my 3 children (Piper, Jackson, Connor) on our small Nebraska farm. We have 8 chickens (Nails, Gigi, BigRed, Oreo), three dogs (Otis, Nugget, and Jasper), one cat (Princess) and six bee hives. We are busy but its a great journey!  My real interest is in bee keeping and the challenges those amazing insects provide me.

My teaching style is to be a facilitator of the learning process and to provide students with a multi-faceted learning experience through readings, watching videos and other visual media, listening to audio, and through research and writing. My emphasis in your learning is not retaining facts but to be able to apply your learning to your work and possibly personal lives.
