Civic Engagement Center

The Civic Engagement Center (CEC) is committed to the advancement of the education of our students, by creating opportunities for students to become civic-minded, actively engaged, life-long scholars and leaders on campus, locally and on a national and global scale. By facilitating engagement with communities between students, faculty and staff, the CEC works to sustain mutually beneficial partnerships that contribute to the public good while staying centered in social and environmental justice.

Community engagement is a key component to the success of the Civic Engagement Center. It is our mission within the university to provide a bridge between our own university community and the layered world around NLU. The CEC provides opportunities for students, staff and faculty to become involved with and engaged in topics, workshops and service opportunities that enrich and expand their minds and encourages a life-long participation in community engagement.

The CEC is located in 18 South Michigan Avenue - 5th floor, room 526 alongside the NLU Food Pantry, and partners with the pantry to provide resources to help students overcome the basic-need barriers that impede their academic success, physical health, and social and emotional life.

The Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification

The Carnegie Foundation selected National Louis University as an Engaged Campus in 2015 and bestowed National Louis University with a Community Engagement Classification. This honor recognizes higher education institutions that partner with their larger community for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources that work to provide students with engaged learning opportunities. These partnerships address community-identified needs, enhance community well-being, and enrich scholarship.
