Biography:

Dr. Catherine Honig joined the NLU faculty in 1990. Since that time, she has been serving both undergraduate and graduate students at the university’s Florida Regional Campus as well as in the university's online programs. She also has served in a variety of administrative roles, including Academic Program Director for the College of Management and Business’ programs in Florida (1990 – 2002), Interim Dean of the College of Management and Business (January 2002 – June 2002), Chair, Graduate Business Programs, College of Management & Business (2008-13), and Chair, MBA Program, College of Professional Studies and Advancement (2015-21).

Dr. Honig is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she earned both her master’s degree (1982) and her Ph.D. (1987) in industrial/organizational psychology. Her academic training emphasized the following areas: a) personnel psychology (e.g., job analysis, performance measurement, training & development, staffing functions such as recruitment, selection, promotion); b) organizational psychology (e.g., organizational behavior, motivation & leadership, job satisfaction, emotional aspects of work, decision making & judgment, workplace stress); c) testing & measurement; d) advanced research methods & multivariate statistical analysis. In the corporate setting, she supervised a marketing research team in a Fortune 500 company. In this capacity, she was involved in the measurement of attitudes and perceptions among substantial consumer populations.

During her tenure as an NLU faculty member, Dr. Honig has actively participated in numerous research projects and has co-written and presented applied research papers on a variety of management & leadership subjects (e.g., authentic leadership, subordinate perceptions of “boss” behaviors, gender-related perceptions) as well as in the areas of outcomes assessment and online learning.

Dr. Honig currently serves as the Editor of MERLOT's Psychology Editorial Board where she supports the aggregation and assessment of open educational resources (OER) for the psychology discipline.

    • Exploration of online teaching & learning (in graduate business education) via the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework

    • Outcomes assessment in a graduate professional leadership program (e.g., longitudinal, value-added measurement of the impact of graduate leadership education on behavior, perception, and values)
  • Perceptions of leadership in the contemporary work organization (e.g., basic "boss" behaviors and their impacts, gender-related perceptions, authentic leadership)
