Biography:
Roy currently serves as chair of the Adjunct Council, and, as Professional Adjunct Lecturer in CPSA, teaching several of its natural science courses, including physical science, astronomy, geology, and ecology. Prior to his arrival at National Louis University, Roy taught additional courses in the natural sciences at Loyola University of Chicago, DePaul University, and Case Western Reserve University.
Roy earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Illinois (in Geology) and a Master of Science in Business Administration (in Logistics) at Iowa State University. Currently, he is pursuing additional credentialing to continue his presentation of natural-science courses. At NLU in his natural-science courses, he encourages students to become engaged in sharpening skills of critical thinking, introducing them to improved science literacy as citizen scientists.
Roy Kaelin pursues an avocation in viewing the night sky with a variety of telescopes he has fabricated over the years. He has become an ardent supporter of the original Mersenne telescope design, a distinct hybrid of refractor and reflector, that can make the skies comfortably accessible for parents with small children and for those confined to wheelchairs.
Among his other interests, Roy likes to write and draw. In recent years, he has written and published several books and is working on several new ones. He complements his teaching career with illustrating wildlife and producing portraits in pencil.
