Kathleen Kotel joined the National College of Education faculty in July 2018. Prior to NLU, Dr. Kotel taught middle school for 13 years and worked with early childhood students with autism, and has also been a consultant working primarily with families.

In addition, Dr. Kotel founded ROAR, a high school club for students with disabilities and their peers, and founded BEST220, a parent advisory board. Further, Dr. Kotel was one of the founding parents and director of GiGi's Playhouse, an achievement center for people with Down syndrome and their families, and a director for an employment program for adults with disabilities.
