As a teacher, I strive to inspire and motivate students to learn and be active participants in their scholastic endeavors.  I believe in independent and critical thinking and try to impress both in my classroom through engaging academic exercises and experiential activities.  Incorporating a variety of mediums in learning, whether on campus or online, is essential.  Skill building is an important part of learning.  Assignments should be linked to improving and developing student skills and providing students with the forum to practice and enhance their talents.  I challenge my students to push beyond their comfort zones, as I empower them to develop their abilities to think, discuss, debate, and listen, with a new respect for others opinions and open-minded awareness.

I am passionate and energetic about criminal justice as my profession and I am excited whenever I have the opportunity to impart my expertise and knowledge with others.  I believe that higher learning is not just about reading and writing, but rather a pre-test for life.  College is as much about keeping a commitment, honoring deadlines, being on time in person as well as online, as it is about academic studies.

I have an easygoing manner of instruction, but do maintain an appropriate level of professionalism in my classroom.  I keep an open door policy and make myself available to my students.  Being proactive, interested and involved creates a safe, supportive learning environment. Students are encouraged to ask questions and then ask more questions!  Learning is a participative activity.  Those of us that are able to “show what we know” are lucky to be called teachers.
