What to Expect
Everything to expect before, during, and after your Learning Support appointment.
Learning Support Specialists provide online and in-person tutoring for the following subject areas:
- Writing (grammar, usage, mechanics, style, organization, and citations)
- Math (algebra, statistics, probability, finite, and pre-calculus)
- Computer Science (information systems, data management, etc.)
- Study Skills (time management, organizational strategies, test-taking strategies, etc.)
Appointments can be made in-person or Online via Zoom, or through our Drop-off Essay and Assignment service.
- Email assignment instructions to your assigned specialist.
- Gather together any notes, readings, and/or books that are important to your assignment.
- For online appointments, confirm the meeting time and make sure you have received a Zoom link to meet with your specialist.
- Plan ahead. If you check your assignment due dates at the start of the term, you can schedule regular appointments to ensure availability.
- If you are not able to attend your appointment, please notify your specialist.
- Review assignment instructions and let your specialist know your goals and/or the main areas you want to cover in the tutoring session.
- Actively participate in the tutoring session.
- Take notes and respond to the specialist's comments, feedback, and/or instructions.
- Be open to feedback and new ideas.
- Be prepared to make corrections or edits according to the specialist’s feedback.
- Revisit your goals at the end of the appointment to determine what still needs to be done and if another appointment is needed.
- Schedule another appointment if you need further assistance.
- Make all necessary edits/revisions/corrections as discussed with the specialist before returning for your next appointment or submitting your assignment.
- Fill out the Happy or Not survey to rate and provide feedback on your experience with Learning Support. (This only takes a couple minutes!)
