The Center for Literacy
National Louis University’s Center for Literacy provides instruction, professional development and consultation services for school and district to support and improve PK-12 literacy programs and research. The Center for Literacy, and its campus locations, also function as training sites for graduate students who provide literacy instruction for participating school-age students.
Celebrating over 50 Years of Literacy Teaching & Learning
Established in 1972, the Center for Literacy’s mission is to promote leadership in literacy within NLU as well as at the state, national, and international level. It accomplishes its mission through its graduate programs, partnership projects, research and publication, outreach, institutes, and reading improvement programs, which include literacy initiatives such as improving literacy outcomes for students experiencing difficulties in various areas of literacy through our exclusive clinical tutoring model. A hallmark of the NLU Center for Literacy is its emphasis on collaboration for leadership in literacy. Working with Reading and Language program faculty as well as Chicago area school leaders, it offers literacy professionals, including Reading Program alumni, multiple opportunities to continue professional development in literacy.
