Assessment

Assessment services are offered by the Reading Center professional staff. These assessments focus on gathering information that can be used directly for instruction. Assessment of beginning readers utilizes primarily non-standardized measures. For developing and junior-senior high students, both non-standardized and standardized measures are used. Typical assessments begin with a parent interview and take several hours of time which can be spaced over two or more sessions. A summary conference and report are provided. Specific suggestions for home and school interventions are offered, as well as relevant referrals, if needed. Follow-up conferences and school conferences are available on request.

Consultation

The faculty and staff of the Reading Center provide consultation to districts, schools, classrooms and private organizations. Types of consultation include customized professional development sessions for school personnel, curriculum development, school partnerships, demonstration lessons, parent group workshops, and organizing readers' groups and writing workshops.
