Fitness and Recreation

Are you looking for a great, peaceful place to meet new people, a quiet place to study or some place to sit down and check your emails? The Student Centers offers several lounge spaces for you to kick back and unwind or enjoy some games and fitness with friends. From places like the Eagle Den that will provide you with a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and the Art Museum; or the Commons showing off Millennium Park, any one of our lounge spaces will offer comfort and community building.

The Commons

We invite you to kick back and relax at the Commons in the 18 South building located on the 5th floor. This lounge is perfect for taking a mid-day break or catching up on some homework. The Commons offers two large televisions for staying up to date on current events or playing Mario Cart with friends.

The Game Room

There is nothing wrong with a little friendly compition! The Game Room is perfect for a small group of friends looking to shoot some pool or throw it back with some old school board games.

The Fitness Center

The NLU Fitness Center, located in the 18 South building on the Chicago Campus, is open to students, staff, and the community. NLU's fitness center offers free weights, treadmills, elliptical trainers, standing weight machine, and stair climber. Mediation, Zumba, Yoga and Red Cross CRP classes are available in throught the NLU Fitness Center.

*To gain access to the fitness center, NLU students and employees must complete the online access form here.

  • Workout attire is required to use the Fitness Center such as shorts, sweatpants, short or long-sleeved shirts, and supportive athletic shoes with socks.
  • Hosiery or tights are not acceptable for women during fitness testing.
  • Unacceptable attire includes jeans, jean shorts, sandals, and boots.
  • Use the appropriate amount of weights so that you do not jerk, bounce, slam, or drop weights.
  • Weight belts are not permitted during workouts unless medically necessary.
  • Children are not allowed in the workout area due to safety precautions.
  • Profanity and illegal drugs are prohibited.
  • Food, candy, drinks, smoking, or chewing tobacco also are prohibited.
