Student Health Insurance Program

National Louis University is committed to the health and welfare of all its students. There are specific populations of students who are required to have health insurance and some populations that are not required but are eligible to opt-in or enroll for the health plan coordinated through NLU.

INSURANCE REQUIRED (Auto-Enrolled Populations):

New students in the auto-enroll/insurance-required populations are automatically enrolled unless a waiver is submitted by the posted deadline

  • Kendall College for the Culinary Arts: Students enrolled in the Kendall College programs (Certificate, Associate's, or Bachelor's) programs enrolled in at least 6 quarters are auto-enrolled
  • International students residing in the United States (except for students Doctorate in Business Administration in Florida) are auto-enrolled
  • Students living in on-campus housing
  • International students with an F1 or J1 visa

*To be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Program, students must have an address in the United States. Students are responsible for ensuring their address is updated with the university.

**International Students: For students who are part of auto-enrolled populations, such as international students, if NLU does not have a U.S. address in your NLU student record, you will not be auto-enrolled.

INSURANCE OPTIONAL (Not Auto-Enrolled, must submit enrollment form):

  • Students enrolled in Clinical Psychology program (PSYD or MA in Clinical Psychology) enrolled in 1 semester hour or more (MS/MA in Counseling not included or covered)
  • Students in the DBA Program in Florida

Insured students who are enrolled in the Student Health Plan may also enroll their eligible dependents by submitting an enrollment form by the posted deadline.

Charges for health insurance are added to student accounts. Payment arrangements are coordinated through the Office of Student Finance.

NLU does not coordinate insurance for students not included in these programs. If you are an NLU student in another program and would like health insurance please see the resources listed below under Other Health Insurance Options.

INSURANCE WAIVER PROCESS

How do I waive coverage?
Students that have health coverage provided by other means may waive coverage by submitting the online waiver form including information for their plan or putting N/A. The waiver must be submitted by the posted deadline for the term. Failure to provide policy information, dependent on the academic program requirements for insurance, may result in not receiving a waiver, and the charge will remain on your student account.

Waivers are not accepted after the deadlines below. If the link to the form says inactive or closed, the deadline to request a waiver for the term has passed and the charge for insurance will remain on your account. The waiver form will be active one month prior to the deadlines listed below to accept new waiver requests. Submit the online waiver form before the deadline.
