Facilities & Campus Operations

As classes and on-site work presence continues to ramp up as vaccination rates increase and positivity rates decline, it is important to know that NLU is taking steps to help prevent any continued spread of the virus and to ensure that students, faculty and staff have a clean and safe environment in which to learn and work.

To that end, the University has taken the following steps to provide comfort to its community:

  • Installed air purifiers throughout all of the campuses (in classrooms, public areas, etc. ) to help cleanse the air of germs.  These purifiers continuously recycle and clean the air.
  • Installed ionization systems in the Wheeling and Chicago campus HVAC ductwork/systems which produce positive and negatively charged particles to eliminate any airborne diseases that might exist.  In addition, air filters previously existed at all of our campuses and these filters accomplish a similar function.  Further, the filters are changed at least quarterly which is in compliance with health and safety guidelines.
  • Increased the frequency of cleanings of bathrooms and high touch areas in the various campuses.  This has meant an increase in the number of janitorial personnel that we are utilizing.
  • Provided personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, face shields, etc.) available at all campuses for utilization.
  • Provided hand sanitizer systems in all public areas as well and regularly are providing hand sanitizer in classrooms.
  • Installed temperature scanning machines at the entry points at all campuses for folks to take their temperature.
  • Provide for a daily pre-check of all individuals which allows them to validate that they feel fine, that they do not have COVID symptoms, or have been in close contact with anyone with COVID in the last fourteen days.
