Biography:

Dr. Bressman has taught at NLU since 1988.  Prior to teaching preservice Teacher Education in the College of Education, she was a classroom teacher, assistant principal and Gifted Education coordinator in a public school system in Illinois. Her background in teaching taught her the importance of seeing the talents that all students bring to the classroom and to understand how to tailor education to meet the needs of all learners. She enjoys sharing her passion for and learning with her own teacher candidates.

Dr. Bressman’s current research interests revolve around the important work of mentoring teachers, both those new to the profession as well as experienced classroom educators. She believes that supporting teachers, one- to-one, helps promote a quality-driven approach to teacher growth and development.  Her mission is to inspire great teaching through an ongoing approach to mentoring teachers throughout their professional lives.

A recent grant received: Pathways to Excellence in Early Childhood Education

A 2014 grant awarded by the Illinois Board of Higher Education as part of the federal Race to the Top initiative. The grant is a partnership arrangement with Triton Community College and will work to provide pathways to Early Childhood licensure for community college students transitioning to four-year BA degree status.
