Biography: I have taught courses at NLU as an adjunct professor since 2014. I am originally from Chicago and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where I received a B.A. in anthropology. After graduating in 1999 summa cum laude and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, I attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to pursue a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology.
I received competitive grants from the Social Science Research Council and the National Science Foundation to conduct field research in Kenya as well as in the United States examining how differing ethnic identities and perspectives on race affected social relationships between African Americans and Kenyan immigrants. I love to travel and have visited many cities in Europe including London, Paris, Monaco, Nice and Milan. After getting married, I returned to Chicago and completed my doctorate in 2006.
Since moving back to Chicago, I became an entrepreneur, a busy mom to four wonderful children and continue to teach courses in the social sciences. I have taught courses in cross-cultural anthropology, urban ethnography courses that examine the ethnic diversity of "global cities" like Chicago, and a number courses examining research methods and cultural diversity. Inspired by my cultural research as well as my travels, I used my background in anthropology to start my own business in 2007. I developed an eco-luxury skin care line based on the practices of native cultures and ancient civilizations around the world. I have become increasingly interested in health and wellness as well as eco-consciousness and felt that an all natural skin care line could benefit from the holistic and cross-cultural approach of anthropology.

Research and Interests: My dissertation research examined racial and ethnic identity among African Americans and Kenyan Immigrants in Chicago. My interests are social identity, race, culture, media, globalization, health and wellness, eco-consciousness.
